Your car has antilock brakes (ABS). A vehicle stops suddenly ahead of you on an icy road, and you must stop quickly. How should you use the brakes?
Correct answer: Press the brake pedal firmly and keep pressing; do not pump the pedal.
Why
Antilock brakes keep the wheels from locking, so you can still steer while you brake hard. In a vehicle without ABS, the manual says to pump the pedal, because a locked wheel gives no steering control. On ice, also slow down early and leave extra following distance so that you need less hard braking.
