Regulatory, Lane & Parking SignsStandalone practice
On a freeway, you pass a white sign that reads EMERGENCY STOPPING ONLY. Your passenger wants to stop on the shoulder to check a map on a phone. What should you do?

Correct answer: Keep driving, and make the stop at the next exit or rest area
Why
If you do have an emergency, signal, move as far off the road as you can, and make sure the vehicle cannot roll. Nebraska law says a disabled vehicle on a freeway shoulder must face the direction of travel with all parts clear of the lanes, and it may stay there no more than 12 hours. Vehicles stopped on shoulders are often hit by drivers who drift, so plan fuel, rest and phone stops ahead.
