Freeways & High-Speed RoadsStandalone practice
You have just merged onto a Nebraska interstate. The weather is clear and dry, and traffic moves freely at about 70 mph. You feel nervous and want to drive 35 mph in the right lane until you are used to the traffic. Is this allowed?
Correct answer: No. Unless conditions make a lower speed necessary, you must keep at least 40 mph.
Why
A car at 35 mph among vehicles at 70 mph or more is closed on very quickly, which invites rear-end crashes and sudden lane changes. Use the acceleration lane to build up to the speed of traffic before you merge. Signs may set a different minimum on some freeways; if you are not ready for interstate speeds, choose a slower route until you are.
