A barricade and a ROAD CLOSED sign block a highway. The pavement past it looks dry and clear, and there is room to drive around the end of the barricade. What should you do?
Blue A approaches a barricade that spans the highway. An exact ROAD CLOSED face stands on the barricade although the pavement beyond looks dry.
Correct answer: Turn around and use another route, and leave the barricade where it is.
Why
A road can be closed because of floodwater, a washout, a crash or construction that you cannot see from the barricade. In a flash flood, even shallow water can hide a road that has washed away. The only safe choice is to turn around and find another way.
