Passing target: 80% (32/40)
You drive out of a store's driveway in a downtown business district. A sidewalk crosses the driveway just before the street. What must you do?
A approaches a continuous public sidewalk across a store driveway. B travels on the street beyond the sidewalk, and A has not entered either area.
Correct answer: Stop before the sidewalk, yield to people on it, then yield to traffic on the street.
Why
Pedestrians on a sidewalk that crosses a driveway have the right-of-way, and they may not expect a car to come out. Walls, parked cars and bushes often block the view, so after the first stop you may need to move forward slowly and stop again where you can see the street. Enter the street only when both the sidewalk and the traffic lanes are clear.
