Driver A, who is 30, is stopped at a red light when a text message arrives on the phone in the cup holder. When may Driver A pick up the phone to read and answer it?
Correct answer: After pulling off the road to a legal spot where the car stays stopped
Why
Reading or typing a message takes your eyes, hands and mind away from driving at the same time. RSA 265:79-c bans hand-held phone use while driving, including while stopped at a light or in traffic, but drivers 18 and older may use a hands-free or built-in system that does not take their attention from the road. Drivers under 18 may not use a phone at all while driving, even hands-free, except to report an emergency.
