Passing target: 80% (32/40)
You follow a slow car on a two-lane road with a broken yellow center line. The road climbs to a hilltop just ahead, and you cannot see what is beyond it. What should you do?
A follows a slow car on a two-lane road with a broken yellow center line before a hilltop. A side profile identifies the crest that blocks A’s view.
Correct answer: Stay behind until you pass the hilltop and can see a long, clear stretch ahead.
Why
At the top of a hill, an oncoming vehicle can appear with very little warning, which is not enough time to finish a pass or to stop. The same limit applies on curves, within 100 feet of an intersection or railroad crossing, and near a bridge or tunnel when your view is blocked. Wait until the road ahead is visible and clear for the whole distance you need.
