Freeways & High-Speed RoadsStandalone practice
You are in the left lane of a three-lane highway, and your exit is 2 miles ahead on the right. How should you prepare for it?
A travels in the left lane of a three-lane highway. The card identifies A’s right-side exit as two miles ahead, beyond this view.
Correct answer: Move to the right lane early, and signal at least 500 feet before you exit
Why
At highway speed, a car covers 100 feet in about one second, so a short signal gives other drivers almost no warning. An early lane change and a long signal let the traffic around you adjust. Then use the deceleration lane to slow down for the ramp.
