Passing target: 80% (32/40)
You want to move into the lane just ahead of a loaded tractor-trailer on a highway at 55 mph. How does the truck's stopping distance compare with a car's?
A travels in the left highway lane slightly ahead of loaded tractor-trailer B in the right lane. The card states a speed of 55 mph and A’s plan to move just ahead of B; no lane-change route is shown.
Correct answer: It is more than 1.5 times a car's, even with good brakes and tires
Why
If you cut in close ahead of a truck and then slow down, the truck driver may not be able to stop in time. Do not enter a road or change lanes close in front of a large vehicle. When you pass a truck, wait until you can see its whole front in your rear-view mirror before you move back in, and keep your speed.
