Licensing & Test ReadinessStandalone practice
Riley, 18, holds an original New Hampshire license. After Riley's first conviction for speeding, the Director holds a hearing and suspends Riley's license for 60 days. Does this period fit the Youth Operator 'Under 20' law?
Correct answer: No; for a first offense, the law allows 20 to 40 days.
Why
The original license period is meant to help new drivers build proper driving habits. Since January 1, 2026, the law gives these ranges: 20 to 40 days for a first offense, 45 to 90 days for a second, and 90 to 180 days plus an in-person driver attitude program for a third or later offense. A youth operator convicted of impaired driving, reckless driving or speeding more than 30 mph over the limit faces extra penalties.
