At a sobriety checkpoint, a breath test shows an alcohol concentration of 0.03 for Taylor, who is 19. Taylor had one beer an hour ago, feels fine and shows no other sign of impairment. May Taylor drive on?
Correct answer: No; 0.03 is over the 0.02 limit for drivers under 21.
Why
New Hampshire sets a much lower limit for young drivers: 0.02 instead of the adult 0.08. The manual says that vision is already affected at 0.02 for every driver, and one drink can be enough to reach that level. A youth operator who is convicted of an alcohol offense also faces extra license penalties.
