Ana, 26, moves to New Jersey with a valid, full (non-provisional) driver license from Ohio. What can she expect when she transfers it?
Correct answer: MVC may waive both tests; she must meet 6-point ID and give up her Ohio license.
Why
New Jersey recognizes a valid, non-provisional license from any U.S. state, the District of Columbia or a listed U.S. territory, and these adult drivers receive a four-year basic license. A transferring driver aged 17 to 18 gets a one-year probationary license with GDL restrictions instead. Applicants from other countries must pass the knowledge test and vision screening and may have to pass a road test.
