Your car has conventional disc and drum brakes. You press the brake pedal, but the car does not slow down. What should you do first?
Correct answer: Shift to a lower gear, then pump the brake pedal hard and fast several times.
Why
Pumping can work on conventional brakes because it may restore some brake pressure. If the pedal still does nothing, apply the parking brake while you hold the release, so you can let go if the rear wheels lock and the car starts to skid. Stay in a low gear, find a safe spot off the road to stop, and call for help.
