You register a passenger car and receive two matching plates. Your car has no front plate bracket, so you plan to mount only the rear plate. What does New Jersey law require?
Correct answer: Mount one plate on the front and one on the rear, both clean and visible.
Why
The rear plate must also be lit so it can be read from 50 feet behind the car at night, even if the plate is reflective. Plate covers or frames that hide the state name or the plate number are illegal and can bring a fine of up to $100. If a plate is lost or stolen, report it to the local police and inform the MVC.
