Passing target: 80% (40/50)
You are following a school bus with children on board toward a railroad crossing. No lights are flashing and the gates are up. What should you expect?
A follows school bus B toward railroad tracks. The crossing has unlit warning lamps, a crossbuck and a raised gate arm. The card states that children are on the bus; no train is visible.
Correct answer: The bus will stop before the tracks, so be ready to stop behind it even with no warning signals.
Why
Some vehicles must stop and look and listen at every railroad crossing because a crash with a train would be disastrous for their passengers or cargo. The main exception is a crossing marked with an Exempt Crossing sign. Keep a safe following distance near crossings so that you can stop smoothly when one of these vehicles stops, and never stop on the tracks yourself.
