Light rain starts on a gray afternoon, and you turn on your windshield wipers. What should you do with your headlights?
Correct answer: Turn them on so that other drivers can see your car more easily
Why
Headlights help other people see you, not only help you see the road. In rain, other drivers may not notice a gray or silver car until it is close. NMSA 66-3-802 requires lighted lamps from a half hour after sunset to a half hour before sunrise, and whenever the light is not good enough to see people and vehicles clearly at 500 feet. The manual's 'wipers on, lights on' habit goes further and keeps you visible in any rain.
