Safe & Responsible DrivingStandalone practice
You feel very drowsy on a long highway trip. Home is 40 minutes away, and a rest area is 2 miles ahead. What is the best action?
Correct answer: Stop at the rest area, away from traffic, and take a 15- to 45-minute nap
Why
When you notice drowsiness, accept that you are close to sleep and cannot know when it will come. Caffeine can help for a short time, but it needs about 30 minutes to work, so it is best used with a nap. On long trips, get enough sleep beforehand, travel with a companion and plan a break every 100 miles or two hours. After you wake up, wait at least 15 minutes before you drive.
