Your doctor prescribes a new medicine, and the label warns that it may cause drowsiness. You took the first dose an hour ago and need to drive to work. What should you do?
Correct answer: Ask a doctor or pharmacist about its effects, and do not drive if it makes you drowsy
Why
Many prescription and over-the-counter medicines, such as some cold remedies, allergy pills and tranquilizers, can affect reflexes, judgment, vision and alertness. In New York it can be a crime to drive while impaired by a drug, even one prescribed by a doctor. Read every warning label, ask how the medicine affects driving and never mix it with alcohol. Until you know how it affects you, ride with someone else or use public transit.
