Leo is 16, lives upstate and has a learner permit. He wants to practice in the family car at 4 p.m. on a school day. Who may supervise him from the front passenger seat?
Correct answer: His 24-year-old cousin, who has a valid Class D license
Why
These two conditions apply to every learner permit holder, of any age. Junior permit holders also have time and place limits: upstate between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., the supervisor must be a parent, guardian, person acting as a parent, driver education teacher or driving school instructor, and in New York City and on Long Island a junior permit holder may not drive at all during those hours.
