Before a long trip, you notice a lot of free movement in the steering wheel, and the car whines when you turn the wheel sharply. What should you do?
Correct answer: Have a qualified mechanic check the steering before you make the trip
Why
The driver is responsible for making sure the vehicle is safe to drive. A vehicle must be inspected at least once a year, but you should also watch key equipment yourself: brakes, steering, lights, tires and horn. A steering or brake problem can take away your control in an emergency, so fix it before a trip, not after a breakdown. Your owner's manual and a trusted mechanic can guide routine care.
