Passing target: 80% (24/30)
You follow a tractor-trailer on a two-lane highway. The trailer hides the road ahead of it, and you cannot see the truck's side mirrors. What should you do?
A follows tractor-trailer B on a two-lane highway. The large trailer blocks A’s forward view; the card states that A cannot see B’s side mirrors.
Correct answer: Drop farther back so that you can see around the truck and its mirrors
Why
Large trucks, motor homes and trailers block much more of your view than cars do, and the handbook warns that the closer you get, the more they block. Tractor-trailers have blind areas up to about 20 feet in front of the cab, along both sides and up to about 200 feet behind. If you cannot see the truck driver in a side mirror, the driver cannot see you. Before you pass a truck, drop back, watch its turn signals and make sure that you can see far enough ahead.
