Licensing & Test ReadinessStandalone practice
Noah is 13 years and 10 months old. His parent wants him to start supervised practice with a North Dakota Class D instruction permit as soon as the law allows. At what age can Noah first apply for the permit?
Correct answer: At 14 years old
Why
The permit lets a new driver practice only with a qualified supervising driver beside him or her. At 14 the applicant must also pass the knowledge test and the vision screening and have a parent or legal guardian sign the sponsorship. An early start gives more months to build skill in many conditions, such as night, gravel and winter driving, before driving alone.
