Licensing & Test ReadinessStandalone practice
Lucas got his North Dakota instruction permit when he was 15 years and 8 months old. What is the earliest time at which he can take the road test, or use a road-test waiver, for his operator's license?
Correct answer: Six months after he got the permit, at age 16 and 2 months
Why
The holding period gives each new driver months of supervised practice in different seasons and conditions before driving alone. Permit holders who are 16 or 17 must hold the permit for six months or until age 18, whichever comes first. N.D.C.C. 39-06-04 sets the same limits: at least six months, or at least twelve months while the driver is under 16.
