Passing target: 80% (24/30)
At 3:15 p.m., children are leaving a school as you drive past it. The street's posted limit is 25 mph, and no special school speed is posted. What is the most that you may drive as you pass the school?
A passes a school area at 3:15 p.m. Two children walk from the school side toward the sidewalk, outside the roadway. The card states that the street is posted 25 mph with no special school speed posted; a school warning sign has no speed tab.
Correct answer: 20 mph
Why
Children near a school can step into the street without looking, and at 20 mph a driver can stop in a much shorter distance than at 25 or 30 mph. The limit applies during recess and at the times when children arrive at school or leave; at other times the normal limit for the street applies. Always drive slower than the limit when conditions make it necessary.
