Passing target: 75% (30/40)
You drive on a snowy road. The rear of your car starts to slide to the right. What should you do?
A travels toward a bend on a snowy two-lane road. A dark arrow beside its rear points toward the driver’s right and identifies the rear sliding sideways; it is not a steering instruction.
Correct answer: Ease off the brake or gas pedal, and steer to the right, the way the rear slides.
Why
Skids happen when you drive too fast for conditions, stop too suddenly, or the tires lose their grip on the road. Releasing the pedal lets the tires grip again, and steering into the skid brings the front of the car back in line with the rear. When the car is straight again, drive at a lower speed that suits the road.
