Safe & Responsible DrivingStandalone practice
After two beers at a cookout, Marcus says that he feels fine and can decide for himself whether he is safe to drive. What is the main reason that his feeling is not a safe guide?
Correct answer: Alcohol weakens judgment almost at once, so he cannot trust how he feels.
Why
Alcohol moves quickly from the stomach into the blood and on to the brain. It slows reflexes, blurs vision and makes it hard to judge speeds and distances, but its first effect is on the judgment that a person uses to decide whether to drive. Even a small amount reduces your ability to size up a driving situation, so the safe choice is not to drive after you drink.
