Your light turns green and you start a right turn. A pedestrian who has a WALK signal is crossing the street that you are turning into. What must you do?
A starts a right turn from the northbound approach under a green signal. B has a WALK signal and is in the receiving street’s marked crosswalk, crossing A’s intended path.
Correct answer: Wait before the crosswalk until the pedestrian has crossed your path, then turn.
Why
A green light gives you permission to move, but it does not clear the way for you. Pedestrians are hard to see during a turn, so look toward the crosswalk you will cross before you start to turn. Stay behind the crosswalk while you wait, and do not use the horn or engine noise to rush a person. The manual also tells you to yield to other vehicles that are legally in the intersection when your light turns green.
