Parking, Reversing & Roadside StopsStandalone practice
You stop on a level street in front of a store and will be inside for about five minutes. What should you do before you leave the car?
Correct answer: Set the parking brake, shift into park, stop the engine, and remove the key
Why
A car that is left alone can roll, and a car with the key in it is easy to steal. Oklahoma law says that the driver must stop the engine and set the brake before leaving a motor vehicle unattended, and must turn the front wheels to the curb on a grade. The manual adds: put the gear in park (or in low or reverse in a car with a manual transmission), lock the ignition, and take the key. Lock the doors too, even in your own driveway.
