Regulatory, Lane & Parking SignsStandalone practice
On a rural road with no sidewalks, you come to this red eight-sided STOP sign. There is no crosswalk and no stop line, and a car on the cross street is close to the intersection. What must you do?

Correct answer: Stop where you can see the cross street, let the car pass, then go when clear
Why
The stop point depends on the markings: stop before a crosswalk, marked or not; at a stop line if there is one; or else where you can see the cross traffic. Only a stop sign has eight sides, so you can know it by its shape and red color even when dirt or snow covers the word. A red rectangle under it that says 4-WAY or ALL-WAY means that all traffic at the intersection must stop.
