Passing target: 80% (16/20)
You drive toward an intersection and plan to go straight. The traffic light shows a steady red circle. There is a marked crosswalk but no stop line. What must you do?
A approaches a marked crosswalk under a steady circular red signal and intends to go straight. No painted stop line is present.
Correct answer: Stop before the crosswalk and stay stopped until the light turns green.
Why
Where you stop at a red light depends on the markings: stop at the stop line if there is one, before the crosswalk if there is no line, and before the intersection if there is no crosswalk. A steady red light does not let you go straight after the stop, which is the main difference from a flashing red light. In Oklahoma you may turn right on red, or turn left from a one-way street onto another one-way street, after a full stop unless a sign forbids it. Even then, you must yield to pedestrians and to traffic in the intersection.
