Passing target: 16 correct signs and 16 correct rules (TLA practice targets)
On an Ontario highway, a load projects at least 1.5 metres beyond the rear of your vehicle. How must you mark the load’s farthest rear point?
A blue pickup carries supported lumber secured by two straps on a paved loading apron. The lumber extends well beyond the rear bumper.
Correct answer: Red light at night or in poor visibility; else a red flag or marker
Why
For a rear projection of 1.5 metres or more, place a red light at the load’s extreme rear from 30 minutes before sunset until 30 minutes after sunrise, and whenever light is insufficient or atmospheric conditions are unfavourable. At other times, use a red flag or red marker that indicates the projection. Secure the load separately.
Verified against Highway Traffic Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8 · Section 111: Overhanging load and proper loading
