If you are convicted of driving while your licence is suspended for a Criminal Code offence, what is the penalty for a first offence?
Correct answer: A $5,000–$25,000 fine, up to 6 months' jail, 6 more months suspended
Why
If the suspension was imposed under the Criminal Code provisions named in the Highway Traffic Act, a first conviction for driving while suspended can bring a $5,000 to $25,000 fine, up to six months in jail, or both. The licence is also suspended for an additional six months.
