Passing target: 16 correct signs and 16 correct rules (TLA practice targets)
In a roadwork area, a traffic-control person displays the STOP side of a STOP/SLOW paddle toward you. What must you do?
Correct answer: Stop before the person and wait while STOP is shown
Why
Stop before reaching the traffic-control person and wait until the STOP sign is no longer displayed. Then follow the traffic control and proceed cautiously. Ontario’s construction-project STOP/SLOW paddle is octagonal, not circular. This rule does not give every work-zone worker a police officer’s general power to override traffic controls.
Verified against Highway Traffic Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8 · Section 146.1(1),(3),(4),(7): construction/maintenance traffic-control people and displayed STOP/SLOW duties; section 134 is the separate police-direction power.
