Passing target: 80% (28/35)
You are near the end of a freeway acceleration lane. A car in the right freeway lane is almost beside you, and there is an open gap just behind it. What should you do?
Blue car A approaches the end of an acceleration lane. Silver car B is almost beside A in the freeway’s right lane, with open road behind B.
Correct answer: Yield to the car, adjust your speed, and merge into the gap behind it.
Why
On a freeway on-ramp, you use the ramp to reach the speed of traffic instead of slowing down as you do before most busy roads. The entering driver must still yield, so check your mirrors and blind spot and choose a gap early. Freeway drivers should adjust their speed to help a smooth merge, but you must not count on it.
