Passing target: 80% (28/35)
On a rural road, you approach a person who rides a horse on the shoulder. The rider looks at you and raises a hand. What should you do?
A travels toward a horse and rider on the paved right shoulder. B faces A and raises an open hand. An enlarged detail shows the rider’s hand and face; there is no stopping line or instruction in the question image.
Correct answer: Stop, unless a stop would cause a collision, and do not use your horn
Why
A person who rides or leads a horse or other livestock may raise a hand to show that the animal is frightened. Stop promptly, and turn off your engine if the rider asks, until the animal is under control. The manual also says to stop when an animal is clearly frightened, even without a signal. Pass animals slowly and quietly, with as much space as you safely can.
