Passing target: 80% (28/35)
You drive forward out of a parking garage in a business district. A sidewalk crosses the exit, and a bicyclist is riding slowly on the sidewalk toward the exit. What should you do?
A drives forward out of a parking garage toward a sidewalk that crosses the exit before the street. B rides slowly to the right along that sidewalk and has not yet reached the garage exit.
Correct answer: Stop before the sidewalk, let the bicyclist pass, then move up and check the street.
Why
Walls and parked cars at garage and driveway exits often hide people on the sidewalk until the last moment. A full stop before the sidewalk gives you time to see them and gives them time to see you. When the sidewalk is clear, move forward slowly and stop again if you need a view of the street.
