Passing target: 80% (28/35)
You are stopped at a red light in the left lane of a one-way street. You want to turn left onto a one-way street whose traffic moves to your left. No sign prohibits a turn on red. What may you do?
A is stopped before a red light in the left of two northbound one-way lanes. The cross street has two westbound lanes. No prohibiting sign is shown; arrows identify the traffic directions.
Correct answer: After your full stop, yield to pedestrians and traffic, then turn left into the nearest left lane.
Why
Under ORS 811.360, a turn on a steady red light is allowed in only two cases: a right turn into a two-way street, or a right or left turn into a one-way street that moves in the direction of your turn. In each case, you must stop, yield to traffic and pedestrians, and obey any sign or police officer that prohibits the turn. A left turn on red onto a two-way street is never allowed.
