School Zones, Railways & Work AreasStandalone practice
You approach a railroad crossing that has no lights and no gate. The post has a white X-shaped sign with the words RAILROAD CROSSING, a YIELD sign, and a small sign with the number 2. What should you do?

Correct answer: Slow down, look and listen for trains on both tracks, and stop if one is near.
Why
A railroad crossbuck assembly always includes a YIELD or STOP sign, and you must obey the sign that is posted. With a YIELD sign, slow down, look both ways, listen, and stop if a train is near; with a STOP sign, you must stop even if you see no train. A small sign below the crossbuck gives the number of tracks, and on more than one track a second train can come from either direction.
