You want to turn right onto a two-way street. Your signal shows a steady red arrow that points right. No sign prohibits turns on red, and no officer directs traffic. What does Oregon law allow?
A approaches a two-way cross street in the right lane, intending to turn right. An enlarged signal shows a steady red right arrow; the card states that no sign prohibits the turn, and no route is shown.
Correct answer: A right turn after a complete stop, when you have yielded to pedestrians and traffic
Why
Oregon lets drivers make the same turns on a steady red arrow as on a steady red light: a right turn onto a two-way street, or a right or left turn onto a one-way street in its direction of travel. First stop completely. Then yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk and to traffic that is close enough to be a hazard. A NO TURN ON RED sign or a police officer can prohibit the turn.
