On the road next to a school, you pass a SCHOOL SPEED LIMIT 20 sign. A plaque under it says that the limit applies from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on school days. It is 3:30 p.m. on a school day, and you see no children. The normal limit on this road is 35 mph. What speed limit applies?

Correct answer: 20 mph, because it is before 5 p.m. on school days
Why
Oregon uses three kinds of school speed signs: one with a flashing yellow light, one with school hours, and one for times when children are present. Read the plaque to know when the 20 mph limit applies, and keep to it until an END SCHOOL ZONE sign or another speed sign. If you are not sure whether it is a school day, the manual tells you to slow to 20 mph.
