Passing target: 80% (28/35)
A car ahead of you goes 45 mph on a two-lane highway posted 55 mph. The center marking has a solid yellow line next to your lane and a broken yellow line next to the oncoming lane. Who may cross the center line to pass here when it is safe?
A follows B in the right-hand lane of a two-lane highway. A continuous yellow center line lies next to A’s lane, with a broken yellow line on the other side. The card states that B travels at 45 mph and the posted limit is 55.
Correct answer: Only oncoming drivers, because the broken line is on their side
Why
No-passing zones are marked where a hill, a curve or an intersection limits the view of oncoming traffic. A pass that you start must also end before the solid line begins on your side. In a no-passing zone, you may cross the center line only to go around something that blocks your side of the road, or to turn left.
