Passing target: 80% (28/35)
A pedestrian is crossing the road in a marked crosswalk ahead of you. The person has just stepped from the curb into the bike lane next to your lane. What must you do?
A approaches a marked crosswalk in the travel lane beside a narrow bike lane. B has stepped from the right curb into the bike lane at the crosswalk. A label identifies the bike lane; B’s feet are within it.
Correct answer: Stop, and stay stopped while the person is in your lane or a lane next to it.
Why
A pedestrian in the next lane can step into your path very quickly, and a vehicle in that lane can hide the person from you. Oregon's rule covers your lane, the lanes next to it and the lane that you turn into. When you turn at an intersection, the rule reaches further, so watch the whole crosswalk of the street that you enter.
