Passing target: 80% (28/35)
You come to a red light on a two-lane street. On the cross street to your left, a long truck signals a right turn onto your street. It must swing wide to complete the turn. What should you do?
A approaches a red light in the northbound lane of a two-lane street. Truck B is on the cross street to the left, facing east and signaling right onto A’s street. A white stop line is ahead of A.
Correct answer: Stop back from the stop line and let the truck complete its turn
Why
The rear wheels of a long truck take a shorter path than the front wheels, so the driver swings wide to clear the corner. A long load can also reach into the next lanes during a turn. The truck driver may not see a car that is close beside or behind the truck.
