You approach an intersection with no signs or signals. A car on the cross street approaches from your right at about the same time. You are a little closer to the intersection than it is. What should you do?
A approaches an intersection from the west and B from the south, on A’s right. There are no signs or signals. A is slightly closer to the intersection; the card says they approach at about the same time.
Correct answer: Yield to the car on your right, even though you could reach the intersection first.
Why
At an uncontrolled intersection, look left first to be sure that cross traffic yields to you, then look ahead and to the right, and be ready to stop. The right-hand rule tells each driver who must wait, but it works only if both drivers know it. Under Oregon law, a driver who enters at an unlawful speed loses any right-of-way, so do not count on others to yield.
