You drive in the right lane of a highway with two lanes in your direction. You pass a yellow diamond sign with a black upward arrow and a second line that curves into it from the right. A car on the road to your right is about to enter your lane. The left lane looks clear. What is a good choice?

Correct answer: Check your mirror and blind spot, then move left to give the car room.
Why
The merge sign is placed on the main road to warn that traffic from a ramp or another road will enter your lane. The entering driver must yield, but a courteous move to the next lane keeps traffic smooth. A lane change is legal only after you make sure that it is safe. If you cannot move over, a small change in your speed can help the merging car find a gap.
