Warning, Construction & Information SignsStandalone practice
You approach a railroad crossing that has only a white X-shaped RAILROAD CROSSING sign. There are no lights or gates. A train is plainly visible and close to the crossing. Where must you stop?

Correct answer: No closer than 15 feet and no farther than 50 feet from the nearest rail.
Why
Treat a crossbuck like a YIELD sign: slow down, look both ways, listen, and be ready to stop. Most Pennsylvania crossings have only a crossbuck and an advance warning sign, with no gates. After a train passes, check again for a second train before you start across. The manual tells you to stop for a close train, and the Vehicle Code gives the 15-to-50-foot distance.
