Warning, Construction & Information SignsStandalone practice
You drive on a country road and pass this sign: a round yellow sign with a large black X and the letter R on each side. What should you do?

Correct answer: Start to look and listen for a train, and be ready to stop.
Why
The advance warning sign is placed far enough ahead to give you room to stop before the tracks. Most crossings have only this sign and a crossbuck, with no lights or gates, and familiar crossings with few trains are often the most dangerous. The letters R X R may also be painted on the pavement before the crossing.
