Passing target: 80% (32/40)
A is entering a highway through an acceleration lane. B and C are travelling in the nearest through lane. How should A’s driver prepare to merge?
Blue car A is in a freeway acceleration lane below two eastbound through lanes. Silver B is ahead and silver C behind in the nearest through lane, with an illustrative space between them.
Correct answer: Build to a suitable speed within the limit, signal, check and merge safely
Why
Look at highway traffic early and use the acceleration lane to adjust to a suitable speed, at or near the flow where safe and within the speed limit. Signal, check mirrors and the left-rear blind spot, and continue checking the intended gap. Merge only when safe; do not force another driver to avoid you. An unnecessary stop is not the normal method, but you must not enter an unsafe gap simply to keep moving. The illustration cannot prove the vehicles’ speeds or a safe time gap.
