What does it mean to overdrive your headlights at night?
A car travels on an unlit road with its headlights illuminating a limited distance ahead.
Correct answer: To drive too fast to stop within your headlight range.
Why
Choose a speed that lets you stop within the road distance you can see clearly. Your total stopping distance includes the distance travelled while noticing and reacting to a hazard, as well as braking. If that distance extends beyond the useful headlight range, an unseen hazard may leave too little room to stop. Reduce speed as visibility decreases.
