Weather, Visibility & EmergenciesStandalone practice
Smoke and flames appear at your car. You can still steer and brake. What should you do?
Smoke and flame emerge from a blue car at the roadside.
Correct answer: Stop safely, switch off, get everyone well away and call 911.
Why
Pull over safely, away from crowds or buildings if possible, and switch off once stopped. Get everyone out and move at least 30 m away from the vehicle, clear of traffic. Call 911 from safety and keep others back. Do not return for belongings, attempt to fight the fire yourself, or open a hood or trunk that you suspect contains a fire.
